Madrid Day 3 – Travel Day & Madrid Tips

We packed up our stuff and dropped it off at the train station to enjoy our last afternoon in Spain. First we got lunch at Retiro park by their giant lake filled with people in their little paddle boats.

We walked around the city exploring the streets we had not yet seen. Then stopped for some hot chocolate and coffee at the prettiest cafe. I am pretty sure my hot chocolate was just a melted candy bar.

About a year ago M and I were thinking about what we wanted to collect on our travels. I came up with the idea of collecting cook books! We both love to cook, it is something we can continually use and enjoy while we remember the fantastic trip we had. So we searched for a bookstore and found the perfect Tapas cookbook!

Tired, M and I headed to the train station to wait for our night train! I have been very excited for this having never taken a night train before. M has travelled via night train but it was in a cabin with 2 other strangers. We opted for a private one…slightly more expensive. Around 9:00PM we boarded our train, got settled in our tiny cabin and went to their make shift kitchen for some dinner. An ok steak, bland rice and moist vegetables. Not fantastic but fun for a night.

We attempted to go to sleep.

Madrid Tips

  • Overall, we found that there was not much to do in Madrid. It is a beautiful city but we found ourselves bored by the end of the second day.

  • If visiting the Palace buy tickets early. Unless you are a European citizen, you can get in for free during select times.

  • If possible, visit when the weather is nice. While there is not a lot to do in Madrid, there are some beautiful parks and gardens. Warm weather or beautiful changing leaves would make for the perfect walk!
